The fulfillment that comes from participating in volunteering and charity work is so rewarding and motivational within itself.

However, we tend to see more of the older generations contribute to this aspect of life. As much as some youth do take part in volunteering and charity work, the overall population of youth who do wish to give back to our communities is low and needs to rise. Volunteer and charity work do not have to be done in such drastic measures. Sometimes an action as simple as donating unwanted clothes to a local organization can be enough to help out at least one individual. Youth need to understand the importance of helping others as well as the benefits these actions may bring to their own lives.

Not only does volunteering and charity work provide support and resources to those individuals who need it the most, but it also contributes to one’s own life. Helping out in an environment like these allows youth to gain some of the critical skills needed to become a further developed individual. Whether these are communication skills or leadership skills, plenty of skills and knowledge can be passed on through simply completing this type of work. It could also provide youth with some ideas as to what type of profession they would like to pursue depending on the type of volunteer and/or charity work they complete. Some individuals may feel a strong connection with the work they are fulfilling which sparks a level of willingness to go after a career similar to the tasks and values at the organization they are supporting. Volunteer and charity work can also bring forth opportunities to meet new people and possibly make new friends.

Volunteer opportunities in Brantford

There are so many opportunities for youth to participate in volunteer and charity work in and around our local and global communities. Brantford itself has multiple opportunities including the Brantford Food Bank, The Kindness Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Brantford and District. As youth, take the time to step out of your comfort zone and put your mark out there in a manner that may seem unfamiliar to you at first. Volunteering and charity work have countless benefits that not many youths are aware of, until they take the time to fully recognize the importance of contributing to society in such a positive and meaningful way. As an individual, no matter the age, it is such an illuminating feeling to be able to identify community needs and give back to those who need it most.
